Questions to Ask a Wedding Florist

wedding flowers from GrowerDirect.comA wedding isn’t a wedding without flowers. Flowers play a significant role in weddings. From the bridal bouquet to the reception centerpieces, the flowers are always a main focal point. All eyes will be on the bride as she walks down the aisle. The flowers are also the first thing people see when they walk into the wedding venue, creating the decor and atmosphere. So the flowers have to be perfect!

Once you have determined the wedding theme, location and budget, you can start scheduling consultations with florists, at about 6-8 months prior to your wedding. Here is a list of questions you should ask each florist before making your final decision:

  1. Can I see a portfolio of your work?
  2. What is the contract policy?
  3. Do you charge a flat fee or per item fee?
  4. Can you make a sample bouquet/centerpiece?
  5. Do you offer rental items?
  6. How far in advance will you make the flowers?
  7. Will you be providing a toss bouquet?
  8. Can you show me flowers that are within my budget?
  9. Which flowers are in season for the time of my wedding?
  10. When will the flowers be delivered and is there an extra delivery charge?
  11. Is there an extra set up or servicing fee for the day of the wedding?
  12. Are there any hidden costs (i.e, vase rental, ribbons, travel expenses, etc)?
  13. How much is the deposit and when is the final balance due?
  14. When do I need to give you the final count for the centerpieces?
  15. Do you preserve bouquets after the wedding?

These are just some questions to get you thinking. As you speak to florists, you will probably have more questions for them. Just be sure to get all the answers you need before making the final decision. After all, this is your special day and you want to make sure it’s perfect!!

Once you have chosen your wedding florist,  finalize your flower choices at least 6 weeks prior to the wedding so that the florist has enough time to order your flowers.
