More Guinness World Record Flower Facts

Here at Fun Flower Facts, we love fun flower facts! It’s what our little flower blog is all about! You can learn so much on this blog, such as the history of flowers, unusual plants, plants that kill people, roses named after celebrities, and so much more!

But nothing says “fun flower facts” quite like the Guinness World Records! The Guinness World Records is the ultimate place to find amazing, record-breaking facts! We did a Guinness World Records blog post back in January, but we love Guinness so much, we decided to do another blog post!

Largest Vertical Garden (Green Wall)

The largest vertical garden is 1,516 m² (16,318.02 ft²) and is loacted in the new Seoul City Hall, Seoul, South Korea. It was completed on August 31, 2012.

Tallest Sunflower

Hans-Peter Schiffer of Kaarst, Germany grew the tallest sunflower, which measured 8.23 m (27 ft) tall on September 4, 2012.

Tallest Basil Plant

The tallest basil plant measured 3.34 m (10 ft 11.5 in) on July 4, 2012 and was grown by Anastasia Grigoraki of Greece.

Fastest Growing Plant

The world record for the fastest growing plant belongs to certain species of bamboo, which have been found to grow at up to 91 cm (35 in) per day!

Largest Flower Arranging Workshop

The greatest number of people attending and participating in a flower arranging workshop is 1,892 was held in Kannur, India, on September 17,2011 during the Onam Festival. The workshop lasted 46 minutes and a fresh flower carpet of 1,975.5 m2 (2,1264 ft2) was created.

Oldest Topiary Garden

The world’s oldest topiary garden is Levens Hall, Cumbria, UK, which has topiary designs that are over 300 years old, with the initial planting and training of them carried out in the 1690s. The shapes include Chess pieces, the Judge’s Wig and the Great Umbrellas.

Largest Display of Origami Flowers

Origami is the Japanese art of paper folding. The record for the largest display of origami flowers belongs to Aichi Prefectural Chigusa Senior High School in Nagoya, Aichi, Japan, on 29 December 2012, where students folded 50,178 purple origami irises.

Largest Carpet of Flowers/Plants

The world’s largest carpet of flowers was an Union Jack flag image created by The Real Flower Petal Confetti Company using red, white and blue delphiniums. It was grown in Wick, Worcestershire, UK and measured 7,540.4 m² (81,164 ft²) on July 13 2004.
